I tried learning to crochet on my own a few years back with very little success. I had a difficult time understanding the patterns so I gave up. A year ago, I decided to try to crochet again and make socks for my family for Christmas. I haven't stopped crocheting ever since!
What I did differently was...I watched "how to" videos on Youtube. I learned the basics of crochet through videos by the Crochet Geek, Bob Wilson, Meladora's Creations, and Mike from the Crochet Crowd. There's a multitude of "how to" videos on Youtube and it's well within anyone's reach. I urge you to try and learn a new craft.
